My late loving wife and I replaced ours a few years ago and it is very hot. I have turned it down but it is also good because there is a large bath tub that if is filled with very hot water will actually be just about right by the time it is done. Sadly I don’t use it anymore without my loving wife.
A wise person might check the temperature before using the shower or bath.
In the states, 120F (CDC) to 140F (OSHA) is recommended. In some european countries it is 150F which I found far better in many ways. Hotter water is more useful if you use due care and no, it’s not wasteful of energy if you have a well insulated boiler.

I looked like that the other day when I did a niacin flush, but had to go out before it finished.
