The sole purpose of bridesmaids dresses is to make the bride look fabulous by comparison. One (and only thank goodness) I had to wear was chartreuse which is basically a slightly more yellow and a bit brighter green than bile, plus it looked like an a-line tent.
1. NO to wearing your party dress at the picnic, Alice! Too much danger of mustard, ketchup, and assorted other dress disasters!
2. BLEAH. Quite right, Madeline. I sympathize. When in grad school, I was a groomsman in two different friends’ weddings. Couldn’t have been more different. One was tiny, with ordinary business attire. The other was larger, more formal, and more of a challenge!

I was only a bridesmaid once and she gave me a colour, white or cream, and allowed me to choose my own dress. I still have it, it is beautiful.
And although I looked beautiful, I absolutely did not take any attention away from the stunning bride.
No bile green, thank goodness!

Had a very small wedding at home, never liked the idea of a big show.

I had my sister as the Best Lady. She picked her dress and the color. Made life easier for both of us.
