Somewhat reminds me of Calvin having his mother put on his rain slicker so he can eat soup at the dinner table saying something along the lines, “I have a very sadistic mother.”
Guess this is another example of how today’s overprotective parents lead to so many children being allergic to almost everything. In my childhood days many years ago we didn’t really know a single kid who had an allergic reaction because we played outside in the dirt and grime.
What a shame that Liz had to kowtow to her brother’s bullying yesterday and bring out the lawn sprinklers. If she still watered the lawn by hand today she wouldn’t have had to put the raincoat on her sister!
Hello. This is Attorney Blowgas calling from Morton Salt Co. Immediately cease-and-desist from posting this comic as it infringes on our beloved and venerable trademark.
I would think all those suing companies would be happy for the free advertising! Oh well in the US sue anyone for anything for the money, it doesn’t seem to matter why.
Seems today people are saying it’s all about over-protectiveness and copyright of an American salt company? While it’s clear that April wants to go out in that rain gear, and this is a Canadian comic, so Johnston may have not heard of the salt company, and it was a black-and-white comic originally. It’s just a child playing, relax!
Several of us have seen the similarities between April & the Morton Salt girl. It looks like there were enough differences (rain gear vs. dress, no salt container and originally b&w) that Morton Salt didn’t think it was a threat to their logo. I would bet that the colorist who did this strip had a sense of humor and deliberately colored it to suggest the logo. It’s not nearly as evocative in the black & white version.
June 24th, 2022 is a red letter day in American history and for children everywhere. That is the day the Supreme Court abolished the “evil empire” that has lasted for 49 years.
April is a delightful child. Imagine the horror if the Pattersons were in America. April may have been murdered before she was born for the silly reason of being an “oops baby” (something she had no say in the matter). Thank goodness this strip is in Canada.

At least now April knows that her rain gear works.

Give it a few minutes, she will get hot and then get rid of the umbrella and raincoat.

Ok, we all see Morton Salt here. Why wasn’t LJ sued when she wrote this one? Was everybody blind when it came out?

Good idea! I’m tempted to try that myself, but we’re currently under water use restrictions, due to the drought.

Not sure whether she wanted the raincoat and rain boots to pretend she is in the rain or she just doesn’t want her swimsuit wet.
