Random factoid- if you take “HAL”, from “2001: A Space Odyssey” and substitute the next letter in the alphabet for “h”, “a”, and “l”, you get “IBM.” Arthur C. Clarke did this to avoid legal entanglements because of the ultimate demise of HAL.

“Open the pod bay doors, HAL.”

    “I’m sorry, Dave…I can’t do that…”

hymen, I don’t believe that the IBM story is true. Just a coincidence…HAL was Heuristic Analog something or other….heuristic - a term that basically means it is able to learn, or accumulate knowledge and apply it, such as when HAL makes the determination to “save” the mission.

And look at PAL. What is he, a crossword generator?

HAL according to Wikipedia: Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic Computer.

@Comic: I think Mel needs to get some of his devices ready (i.e. the Procrastination Ray or perhaps that Undo Button) because when she gets back, Pam isn’t going to be happy.

EDIT: Hopefully we learned from Cyber Sid: this time don’t airdrop any supplies! (Below link).

I love that; “What?” And then they’re gone. No asking permission, no consultation. That would be my luck in outer space.

Hey, SherlockWatson, hold on! Most guys wouldn’t do this. (They might do something else equally strange, but not this.)

We know Dr. Mel’s a Theorist by temperament, and he’s nothing if not unique and fun-loving…so then, he illustrates the true meaning of “it’s an ENTP thing.” :)

Just be glad, ladies, that more guys aren’t ENTPs like Dr. Mel. Who knows what trips they’d send you on? ;)

What good is life if you can’t have a little fun along the way?

Still…it is probably better if the fun doesn’t end your life.
