What’s with the smoke and cooking? Don’t they get just kibble? If they lived here, they would certainly have something to fear if I did all of the cooking.
NATIONAL LIPID DAY. National Lipid Day on May 10th each year brings awareness to Dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia is an abnormal amount of lipids (e.g. cholesterol and/or fat) in the blood. In developed countries, most dyslipidemias are hyperlipidemias; that is, an elevation of lipids in the blood. This is often due to diet and lifestyle. Prolonged elevation of insulin levels can also lead to dyslipidemia. Likewise, increased levels of O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) may cause dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia and is the major cause of Cardiovascular Disease worldwide.Preventative measures including health education, emphasis on the role of physical activity, diet, and timely visits to a doctor all aid in living a healthy life.
NATIONAL WASHINGTON DAY. This is celebrating the state of Washington.
I had a very productive day yesterday. I did 3 loads of laundry, which I dried on the clothesline. It’s all piled on my bed now waiting to be folded and put away. I planted more garden. I planted potatoes last week. Yesterday, I planted marigold seeds all around the potatoes. That will make it easier to find where to dig later when the plants die back. I planted 5 rows of green beans, one row of carrots, 2 hills of acorn squash, 3 hills of butternut squash and 4 hills of zucchini. Planting the garden was hard because the wind was fierce, but I managed it. And right now, we are getting rain. That will help start those seeds! I got a little other work done in my yard, too. But I didn’t neglect my favorite activity for this warm, summery day. I took out some time to rest in my lawn swing with a book. All in all, it was a very good day!
It’s 1:30 in the morning and still about 70 degrees outside.
From yesterday’s comments to daleandkristen who said," Wonderful welcoming a new family member. Lila Corrine is a beautiful name. She isn’t John’s daughter I guess."
Nope, Amy isn’t John’s daughter. She’s Jim’s daughter. Jim also has a son, Jake and another daughter, Michelle. Michelle is learning disabled as a result of fetal alcohol syndrome (bother Jim & his wife, Carol drank quite a lot back in those days and Carol drank through the early months of pregnancy. So Amy was Jim’s only chance to be a grandpa (Jake doesn’t have a girlfriend right now & never married).
I just found out they are spelling the baby’s name Lyla, not Lila.
Little LJ and my house still have some lingering odor from his run up to the skunk yesterday. We slept on the couch under blankets more easily washed than the quilts on my bed. 6 or more baths with commercial skunk odor remover plus the combo of peroxide baking soda and palmolive only made it tolerable, I expect it to linger for several more days. Even tho he was sprayed about 4 blocks away, neighbors commented they could smell it in front of my house!
The sad part in today’s strip is that both innocent Lil Oliver and faithful, silent Woof are in the huddle. Of course, it is early days as Annie is not drorn as attractively….Lil Olly’s artwork I suspect.
Plan A was given the boot. Plan B may very well go up in smoke. On another note, saw two wrens, two juncos, eleven robins, a chickadee, two butterflies, and two damselflies while out walking today.

I can’t believe Annie didn’t get all excited about the gumboot sale. Nice try, Chesney.
