I peel them and freeze them. I have enough frozen fruit to have a smoothy every day until the next crop of peaches are ripe.

You’re not supposed to refrigerate bananas, but you can freeze them?

Freezing won’t work unless you plan to use them in a smoothie.

I love bananas and I eat 2 a day. My favorite grocery store only delivers late-stage green ones which deprives me of eating them on delivery day. After 2 days, they start to ripen and turn yellowish. Then it is Katie bar the door. They ripen so fast and get mushy, I end up gobbling them down.

And, should a banana be missed and turn black, you make banana bread.

Freeze bananas? To take a line from a real oldie, sung by Carmen Miranda, “Don’t put bananas in the refrigerator”. Sighhh, some times I really miss the “good old days”.

I live in The Banana Capital of the World – Machala, Ecuador where we have a wide variety of delicious plantains and bananas to choose from – not just the Cavendish strain of bananas most people are used to. They are a very large part of our staple diet.

Don’t like bananas unless they are baked as banana bread.

I heard that bananas are the number one fruit in the USA, by volume. I buy a bunch every week. If they start getting soft I peel and freeze them. Instant ice cream: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup of frozen cherries or berries, two pitted dates. Put it all in the Vitamix and run for about a minute. Add a cup of almond milk and run until smooth and you have instant milk shake. Add a half of a frozen banana to your morning oatmeal before microwaving it and you don’t need any other sweetener.

Thanks to everyone here who taught me some new and interesting facts about bananas. As for me, I peel and freeze them when they get too old to eat, and then routinely turn them into smoothies. My recipe: start with two bananas, two cups OJ, and 16 oz. vanilla yogurt. Blend until smooth, then add frozen blueberries or strawberries (or both) — as much as you want, depending on how thick you want it. I make a blender pitcher full every Wednesday morning, and that’s breakfast for two days for me and my wife.

Learned a lot from this post. I was good and didn’t reply what I thought. But I admit my inner 13 yo kid had a good laugh. :)

When I was a kid my Grandma would always buy bananas as green as she could find, in large bunches. Some of us liked ’em green, others in the family wanted ripe yellow and my Grandpa preferred them mostly black. Everyone was happy.
