It’s 5:46 and the toe bean counters are late again! Demerits all around for failing to spot the giant toe beans barely visible in first frame. Now let the Squees commence!!
I am not surprised that Puck got sucked into the games. Just curious how long until “great job” and “congratulations” texts are replaced with annoyed grumbling and an intervention?
Same as before, they may have their quirks and beefs with each other, but they all love Puck. It figures Goldie would be most amenable to the new technology, even if she opens with a familiar question.
I got Burt and Goldie confused for a while in this panel.
Off Topic: Yes, people, I’m still alive. I am enduring the end of the school year while studying for my insurance agent license. Yes, at the ripe old age of 67, I have realized I can’t survive on my pension and have any quality of life. So I am getting back into my field of group insurance and have a job waiting for me once I get my license.
On Topic for yesterday: You-all forced me (forced I tell you!) to go check out this Wordle thing. This seems like a weapons-grade time sink that you-all should not have been allowed to expose people to. (How do I make the grumpy whiny-baby complaining face on the keyboard.) (Oh, who has time for that—I must get back to the wordles.)
Well this takes my favorite Go Comics characters into a ‘never never’ land of smart phoneoperational boops, touch screen, & assorted scan marvels far beyond old banjo Gordy’s understanding. My wife & do have rarely used Jitterbug phones for emergencies, & service cost is pretty high for something we rarely use. We depend on a much treasured land line Caption Phone.

Puck seems quite pleased with himself.
Next step: Group texts/messages (because those are so much fun when everyone thinks that they have to acknowledge everything)!

Baba Mouse with a smartphone??? I think she might make Elvis seem enthusiastic; I can’t wait to see what apps she gets!

…well, at least Goldie and Lupin are on the same page and it’s cheerfully mutual.

Shouldn’t that be Beatrix and not Goldie taking the phones to the other cats?

I think that’s Burt in the final frame. He and Goldie do look a lot alike in the comic.

I wonder now if Goldie and Burt are related…

Just what I need: these lovely characters mesmerized by screens. No, just leave Elvis to stay free from phones.

So now they’ll all be walking around like zomibes, with their eyes glued on their phones. Undeniable doom.

Put all her news apps in the trash
Make room for sleuth apps that won’t crash
Text Pucky re: his Wordle score
Block Lupin or just press “ignore”
Clackety clack (don’t text back)
Don’t you give her no dirty looks
Goldie’s lit; she knows what cooks
Just tell her hoodlum friend Lupin
He ain’t never gonna “boop” in
Clackety clack (don’t text back)

Sadly, the Icelandic kenning tímaþjófur (peace thief) is not available for smart phones, having been adopted as the name for a pager many years ago.

Steely Dan: Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number
You still are learning, that’s okay
The cell phone can be loads of fun
Try not to be afraid, don’t turn and run
But you can have a ton of fun!
…….
Elvis, please use your cell phone
You can do so much more than call
If you have trouble, just call Bea
Elvis, please use your cell phone,
It has everything you want
You might use if you feel better
When you get home.
…….
You tell yourself it’s not for you,
But try to change your point of view
And you could have a lot of fun!
…….
Elvis, please use your cell phone
You can do so much more than call
If you have trouble, just call Bea
Elvis, please use your cell phone,
It has everything you want
You might use if you feel better
When you get home.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Kat-Mandu: Papyrus here!
Beatrixia: Thanks, K.M. I always look forward to the Papyrus Cat!
Kat-Mandu: There’s a scroll from Afar for Thomios.
Bea: I’ll see that he gets it right away.
At the Royal Pantry
Bea: Thomios, here’s a papyrus for you!
Thomios: Oh, great! It’s a scroll from Uncle Floof! He’s coming for a visit.
Bea: I’ll bet you two have a lot of catching up to do.
Thomios: As well as a lot of cooking!
Bea: Oh, here’s Agnes-Ata.
Agnes-Ata: What food items do you need?
Thomios: I’ll make out a list.
Agnes: I think we can arrange to get everything. But we won’t tell how!
