As a former child abuse investigator, I can say that there are parents who have tried to sell their kids, sometimes for as little as a broken-down car and a working TV. However, I can say that many parents of tween and teen aged girls have sometimes wondered if cultures with arranged marriages might not have the right idea.
i know this meant to be funny, and not trying to spoil your day, but there are still 40 million slaves on Earth and most of them are women and children who have been sold
In the ‘90s there was a popular song called “The Way” that was about a couple abandoning their life and striking out for the unknown. They didn’t bother to sell the kids, just left them in their beds.

Wondering how many parents would love to do just that. No, we didn’t have kids.

I would NEVER sell my kids! However, I might consider an 18 year lease?

I used to say that to my wife all the time. Gypsies were the usual suggested buyers. :)

It’s just his way of being romantic.
He doesn’t really mean it. (I’m pretty sure.)

Leviticus says you can’t sell your sons – so be sure to hike up the price on your daughters (because the Lord says that’s OK)!

Traditionally girls were always sold. But the fathers had to pay the takers instead of the other way around, called a dowry.

On a different note, there have been days when selling the kids seemed like a good idea. Retail, not wholesale, of course.
