    I’m not sure Onomatopoeia contains a true diphthong. I think that might be a triphthong.

    It’s been 50+ years since I heard of diphthongs in school. Since then, I never needed nor gave them a thought until I read today’s comic.

    I think onomatopoeia contains a tetraphthong since “oeia” has more than two sounds.

    When I was a lad, my teachers would have said (erroneously) that the ph and th in diphthong are both diphthongs. I wonder how widespread that misapprehension about the meaning of diphthong was.
