The actual reason for the specific shape of the structure was that the horse was symbol of Troy, and rather than just being a statue it was presented as an offering to both Troy and the goddess Athena to allow the (supposedly) retreating Greek soldiers to safely sail home.

They should have listened to Cassandra “Beware gifts when bearing Greeks”. (or was it the other way round??

Aeneid is Greek for ‘get out of town’. BTW when you pack a bunch of Greeks in a small space…well they do tend to giggle.
