We had 1 Rottweiler who would have played fetch by the hour if we’d have thrown the ball for him. The others would go get the ball a couple of times and when they were done, they were done. You’d throw the ball and they’d give you a look as if to say, “If you want it, YOU go get it.” The English Mastiff did the same thing.
A friend had a Cocker Spaniel (not a very bright breed) who would chase rocks thrown out into the desert/backyard/arroyo. Amazing how often she came back with the same rock!

My dog loves to play that but will not give the object up (stick,ball, whatever) when he brings it back!
