I remember a young cousin being so happy because she got a Cabbage Patch Doll for Christmas. Cabbage Patch Dolls were considered highly collectable because each one was unique — at least originally because they were hand made so each face was slightly different — but the doll my cousin got had been produced by the toy manufacturer that had bought the rights and thus had a PLASTIC FACE, which pretty much made each one exactly like the others, but plenty of people were too stupid to realize that. As the saying goes, “You can fool some of the people all of the time.”

Now $35 in 1964 would be a bit over $300 today. Inflation: the hidden tax!

The Barbie that sold for $4 in the 1960s now brings $900 on eBay.
