Too True! That’s why we went to cash only! After a big credit card debt (that we paid off little-by-little, high-interest-to-low-interest), if we ain’t got it, we can’t spend it! It’s worked for 20+ years. House paid off, cars paid off, credit cards paid off in full at the end of the month (when we’re forced to use them). A little money to help the kids. Cash left over at the end of the month. Takes some really painful discipline at times.
Good idea! If you just stuff a lot of receipts, especially long ones from groceries, into a purse, they might come jumping out sometime like novelty snakes-from-a-can. Which might, however, foil purse snatchers.
I hardly ever use cash anymore. I put almost everything on my credit card. First of all there is cash back (I pay off the balance every weekend) and they do the bookkeeping for me.
our receipts sit on the desk in front of the computer for a couple days until there’s time to enter them into the household accounts ledger. then they get shredded…

Even when I use my card, I get a receipt. Unfortunately, most of them are medical services.

And if you flip it like one of those animated page flippers, you can see your money flying away! ☺

Aunty, if you do that all you will have is room in your purse for more receipts. You have to learn to budget your money Aunty.

I gave up on coupons a long time ago. Way too much work to keep track of them for me. Once in a while maybe, but mostly, no.

But if you don’t keep the receipts you won’t realize you’re broke.

I like to save checkbook registers (if you need an explanation of that, email me at i’mold@justkidding.com) to see what things used to cost.

Yup. We paid everything off when we sold the house. We don’t use credit cards anymore.
