I always trip up on double letters in words. I can never remember whether there’s a double letter or not, and some words mix it up with doubles on one side of the vowel and a single on the other side. I just tried to type “appalling” and typed “apa-” on my first try. If I hadn’t just read the comic, I would have finished the word and not double checked until I saw the squiggly red line from the auto-spellcheck. You’ve got to love those squiggly red lines; they save so much writing embarrassment. (Embarrassment – there’s another word with tricky double letters.)

And the winner spelled “Victorious”. I’m guessing?

Oh please, that’s nothing. I once saw a high schooler misspell “comb” in front of 300 kids. He looked like he couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry.

My word was “illegible” which I have failed to spell wrong ever since I was 8 and lost the spelling bee.
