No, it’s not raw fish. The only ingredient that must always be in sushi is rice. He’s thinking sashimi.

“Sushi” actually encompasses a ‘blend’ of things. Mostly, sweet vinegar’ed rice, and is then combined with various things and becomes “sashimi” when raw fish is added.

The word sushi refers to the rice, not the filling. So sushi doesn’t have to be raw fish. The filling could literally be anything you want, including smoked and steamed fish.

I never really developed a taste for sushi. I spent a couple of years in Okinawa and 3 years in Hawaii. I had sushi often, but I ate it to be polite, I would not seek it out. I’m just too much a steak and potatoes sort of guy. Not sorry.

I tried sushi once. Took it home, fried it up, wasn’t bad on a burger bun.

It’s cold, dead fish. The hype for sushi reminds me of The Emperor’s New Clothes. I’ve tried it multiple times, and it still tastes like cold, dead fish.

Sushi isn’t actually raw fish though, sashimi is. Sushi is a shaped rice ball with a topping. The topping often is raw fish though.

I don’t like sushi because I don’t like rice. I do however like sashimi, which is raw fish
