I concur with Calvin. My Filipina fiance just gave me an Archie & Friends Double Digest for my birthday (“I know that reading is one of your passions”) and Betty and Veronica still look like they wear poured-on clothing. And they don’t even have super powers…at least none that can be mentioned here.
“Comic books deal with serious issues”. In fact, since my chidhood, I have always thought that Donald Duck was a victim of evil capitalist Uncle Scrooge.
You’d think all the superheroes would have a wardrobe assistant?
To help them get in and out of their outfits, handle the laundry, do the ironing and mending (uniforms always being ripped and stained in fights with evildoers).
Nope.
I can’t see Wonder Woman volunteering for domestic drudgery for the male cast of the Justice League either, or Black Widow doing the needful with the Avengers.
I guess it will have to stay one of those mysteries.
We had a comic called “Axa” featuring a scantily-clad warrior princess which, so to say, kindled our adolescent fantasies thoroughly, back in the day. :D
Cartooning is by nature a lonely profession. It is little wonder that female characters were over-idealized in form and dress, as the male characters were over-idealized super-athletes running around in “apocalypse mode” all the time. Fortunately, all modern comic strips and animation are well-told, character-driven stories about co-equal gender-blind commissars working toward resolution of community …

Often, it is getting out of those suits that requires superpowers.

Of course Calvin’s comics are not suitable for children so what does he know?

IMO, the REAL superheroes are the scientists who developed the vaccine against COVID-19.

“Amazon Girl”, could that be Jeff Bezos’ mother…? No, that’s just too silly.., but, if she married Bozo the clown…? No, still too silly.
