Back in the 60s I would borrow my mom’s car for school on Fridays and 4 friends would each chip in 25 cents. A dollar went a long way back then! I don’t think I could stop the pump fast enough to only spend a dollar now.
A lot of people blame President Biden for the high gas prices but in all fairness it is the " OIL " refineries that are not making enough gas of the demand , what a bunch of " jerks " they are . I predict that here in Michigan we will never see gas less that $ 3.00 a gal . Lets face it people already are happy with the 30 to 40 cent drop and it is still $ 4.00 or more , so sad what they are doing to the people : )
I remember back in the olden times, my mother could fill her tank with $2.00 and sometimes get change back from the uniform wearing attendants who wore cool hats.
I remember back in the 50’s the “gas wars” where one gas station tried to undercut another. .19 per gallon and you got green stamps, the glass of the week and a 6 pack of Pepsi on a fill up. Then the stations had a law passed that you could not put the price up of gas on a sign. The stations then posted that cigarettes were .20. Every one knew that was also the price of gas.
Ziggy must live in New Jersey, but that’s still not the same as the 1950’s full service gas station? Also in 1950 Gas was .27 cents a gallon. So two dollars would get you 7.4 gallons.
Reminds me of the “serving size” gimmicks used to make things like aerosol cooking oil a “zero calorie” food. The serving size is literally a “quarter-second spray”. Human reaction time is in that same ballpark. You have never seen anyone use a quarter-second spray of those products. It’s impossible.
My dad used to give me $2 / week to pay for my gasoline in my car. Gas was 17 cents a gallon back in the 1950s. So $2 would last me an entire week. $2 won’t buy even ONE gallon today. Phooey. Still, life is good.
It had been my standard to put $20 in my Honda Fit. Now it takes so little time to get to that $20. (Y’think they tubocharged the pump to get my $20 in that fast . (Deliberately obtuse)

The sign on the pump says “unleaded”. Is leaded gasoline still available in the States?

I remember when $2 was a standard amount to buy for gasoline.

A LOT of people are buying, or converting, bicycles to small gas engines. Don’t know what the MPG on those are.

You know, if I’m paying most of $5 a gallon maybe I should expect to have someone come pump it for me.

Two dollars worth of gas can only fill the tank up a little.
