Reminds me of an old Candid Camera episode where they removed the engine from a car, took it to the top of a hill and let it coast into a gas station and the driver told the attendant to check the oil. This was “back in the day” when they were called “Service stations”

Look on the bright side, you won’t have to worry about high gas prices.

How is any light on with no battery?

Forget the catalytic converter, they went for the whole enchilada! And let me guess: nobody saw or heard anything suspicious!

If the “ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴇɴɢɪɴᴇ” light isn’t working, is there a “cʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴇɴɢɪɴᴇ ʟɪɢʜᴛ” light?

Maybe someone converted your car to a VW, check the trunk.

But on the positive side, consider the gas mileage that you will now be getting.

Man those catalytic coverter thieves are getting brazen. Now they steal the whole engine.

You’re in luck. I have a spare engine back here in the trunk of my Beetle.

Somebody stole the whole engine instead of just the catalytic converter…

Reminds me of a ghost story that I read in the February 1979 issue of Cricket© magazine, about a family driving home from the movies, ending up behind a van, that drives ahead of them the whole journey, ends up at their house, then stops, No one is inside, the hood is cold, and it has no engine. (Psycho style orchestra hits!)

It had been running. This is a case of Wile E Coyote determinism. Now that you’ve looked, it sure isn’t gonna run now .
