I need a “smartphone” for my business to take credit cards. Currently there are buttons… on main screen that go to camera app and flashlight that I HATE! I tried turning off light app and deleting, but that didn’t work! I have to go to photos and constantly delete screenshots I didn’t want. I call it my “not as smart as it thinks it is” phone. ((Siri is definitely off!!))
Gotta say, though, Siri and whatever comparable apps that are voice-activated are literally life savers for some!
I know where the flashlight is, but I generally don’t bother turning it on. I just pull up an app with a white background – Google search works fine – & aim the screen at what I’m trying to see (usually my way down my dark hallway – dang bang the builders for not thinking a light in the hall is necessary! – or a keyhole).
It doesn’t matter if you know how to turn off the flashlight app or not. That bright light has left you temporarily blinded, and you cannot see a thing.
On my Android phone, I had to get an app in order to put an icon on the screen to activate the flashlight. I have two of the icons on two different pages in case of need. They almost never come on accidentally. Of course, I know how to turn them off as well. I didn’t think of all this on my own; someone younger told me, lol. Other phones obviously work differently than mine.
I had the first smart phone – the Palm Centro. I still have it, even though I can’t make phone calls with it any longer. It is the best of the phones I have had – the one after it was a Blackberry (still have also) and I am on my second Android as mine was 4G, but was some kind of 4G that was discontinued along with 3G.
I use the Palm around the house and sync it to Lotus Organizer. My husband put a virtual Windows XP computer in my Win 10aptop (using now) and my Win 7 desktop so I can use the LO on the “other side”. It is small. It has great software for calendar, address book, notes, and todos and they work great with the LO’s also great software.
I hate the software on the Androids and that they sync with on the computers. So I keep all 4 phones up to date so I can use what I like around the house and just use the newest Android when out for making calls, etc.
Husband had assured me when I had to get the new Android that everything would work exactly the same as the old one – HA HA! I don’t use it a lot – though we make all phone calls which are not to 800 numbers on it (maybe 10 calls a month at most and 4/5 are to my 94yo mom on Sunday nights. I got the first call on it – spam of course – and went to touch the red button on the screen to get rid of it. Uh oh! This phone had one button – white, not a red button and green button! He told me that I could keep the same calendar – no, this one does not have that calendar and does not have an agenda listing as my old one did and I liked – he found an alternative listing – but it is not the same and has colors on events, etc to annoy me.
I miss being able to use the Centro for everything.

I really hate the map function on my wife’s phone. It’s extremely difficult to shut off. Some of the time only re-booting the phone works.

Not a problem if you don’t carry it in your front or hip pocket. That’s why I like phone holsters or parachute pockets.

My Android phone responds to Hogwarts voice commands. “Lumos” turns the flashlight on, and “Nox” turns it off…

Just hold down the ‘flashlight’ symbol on the home page until the light goes out. Turn it on the same way.

I dunno, it’s getting so “Pluggers” include some of us who are pretty tech-savvy.
