I was gonna say “Heart is stupid” or something, but I just noticed – that diagram is an org chart for a standard company with a CEO at the top. And they’re talking about pyramid schemes, which rip off people at the bottom so those at the top can reap all the benefits.
Steenz? Did you just say “capitalism sucks” without saying it? Cuz if so, BASED. :^D
It’s not a pyramid scheme if they’re distributing actual product down the hierarchy and sending money back up. A pyramid scheme is where the participants pay money just to join and are promised they can make that money back plus more if they just recruit enough people.
She buys from Tom’s, sells them to the 5th graders (and some people that want a muffin). The 5th graders then go out and sell them, probably keeping the money from their sales. While Heart keeps the money they paid (and did technically sell the muffin).
It sounds similar to how a real store makes money. They buy the product at wholesale prices (which are much lower) directly from the manufacturer. Then they sell the product with a marked up price to the consumer, and pocket the profit made.

Well she has it set up better than Enron. But I still feel a crash coming!

No, it sounds like normal wholesaling.

How is this any different than Girl Scouts selling cookies?

I think it’s only a true pyramid scheme if you make money mainly by recruiting new members, not by selling.
