Control the masses! — In the beginning it made civilization possible and answered questions that science had not yet figured out, but now that we know better it is repressing progress and oppressing those who know better.
“We must always keep our purpose in mind” applies to so many areas of life and it amazes me how often people don’t even figure out what their purpose is before they start. I’m working with someone that has spent over $100,000 building software and they have no written requirements. I keep asking him how he’ll know when they’re done.
If anyone tells you they understand the true nature of god, grab your wallet – they’re selling something. All too often these days, what they are selling is a political party. “I know exactly what god wants: he wants you to vote for the candidate of my choice.”
This is, of course, a lie. God’s nature is beyond human understanding.
Everyone has their own idea of who God is. It’s part of our fallible nature as human beings to want a god made in our own image. The only way to know for certain who God is is if He reveals Himself to us. He has done this through Scripture and primarily by becoming a man, the man Jesus Christ.
“The matter is quite simple. The bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand, we are obliged to act accordingly. Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except pledging yourself to act accordingly. My God, you will say, if I do that my whole life will be ruined. How would I ever get on in the world? Herein lies the real place of Christian scholarship. Christian scholarship is the Church’s prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible, to ensure that we can continue to be good Christians without the Bible coming too close. Oh, priceless scholarship, what would we do without you?"
An obituary of Olivia Newton-John mentioned that her grandfather was physicist and mathematician Max Born. This quote from him seems to apply here: “The belief that there is only one truth, and that oneself is in possession of it, is the root of all evil in the world.”
For me the proof of God’s existence will depend on whether we find life on other planets. If we do, then humans and the earth will not be divine and evolution will win
Teaching theology is an excellent topic so long as it sticks to the history of religion. It’s only wrong if it insists on one belief. I notice up this thread there are people who think that teaching theology means preaching “Believe this”. Theology is the exact opposite.
Let’s not confuse theology—the systematic study of the nature of the divine and, more broadly, of religious belief—with religion: actual belief in, and worship of, a divine being.
Maybe it’s just my imagination, but the lettering in the dialogue balloons, especially in Panel Three, seem to be strangely off-center today, as though the wording had been replaced. Theology is a controversial subject. It makes me wonder if Schulz was told by the syndicate to alter something.
One of my Facebook friends who I went to high school with posted this great cartoon but I don’t know how to link to it because you have to be his friend to see it.
Just to lighten the discussion, Today’s comic is simply Sally trying to impress her SWEET BABOO, AKA Linus Van Pelt, The Blanket carrying philosopher!!

“The Purpose of Theology”. Isn’t that kind of a big topic for a grade schooler? And if it isn’t, let’s get some critical race theory in there too.

I prefer the words of that great theologian, George Carlin. “Religion is bovine exhaust.” Words changed for the benefit of Go Comics censors.
