My knowledge of Spanish is extremely limited, but I believe that Spanish nouns ending in “-o” are masculine, while the ones ending in “-a” are feminine. This causes me to wonder if there is any such thing as a taca.
So all Spanish-speaking people are alike. Shame on her for thinking Cubanos are different than Puerto Ricans and Mexicans. If they speak Spanish — even if it’s not the same Spanish — they’re the same.
Sometimes when you try to make inroads with other cultures the line between relatable and offensive can be difficult to see. I often have this problem too. In this case, I’m wondering why a cartoonist who seems to be talking about tacos half the time is confused when someone from another culture tries to relate to them by talking about tacos, albeit ham-handedly.
She was patronizing and as I thought the taco comment was silly her pronunciation of bodega was atrocious!! Not the hard if you are gonna be pandering at t least take 20 seconds to ask how do you pronounce the “word” to talk down to a particular group of ppl
It’s fine to be indignant, if that is your thing. However, you cannot have it both ways. If you want to present politically as a Latino culture to use that power, you cannot then object to people that use those points of commonality in a descriptive and innocent manner.
We had a bunch of Spanish speaking individuals come to our town. In a short period of time we had many Spanish speaking individuals flooded our court system. They have flooded our welfare system and schools. I for one do not object to those who come here legally, not those that still have their legs still wet from crossing the Rio Grand.
