Not to put too fine a point here, but I’ve done that thing where I doubled the paper size for several designs, and once you get to “11×17”2 or A32, the paper becomes so floppy that it won’t keep shape and the wings just fold.
Douglas Bader once tried this for real. He had a mid-air over France in 1941 or 42, bailed out, was taken prisoner, sent to a PoW camp… and tried to escape. Got caught. Sent to a new camp. Tried to escape. Got caught. The Germans got tired of his escape attempts, and sent him to a special camp: Colditz Castle, sitting on a mountaintop. Utterly escape-proof, it was on rock so no tunnels, only one way in or out so going over the wall wouldn’t work. Bader and six other decided to fly out, most of them being Air Force after all. They had a glider almost complete when the US 1st Army liberated the camp. They were going to launch from a rooftop, and they were on top of a mountain…

If they can fly in paper airplanes, they must be serving a light sentence.

The headline about this prison escape will almost certainly be above the fold.

Sheets, starch and determination can take you a long way. Of course that depends on what the starch is and how long it takes to stiffen the sheets.

That giant-paper-making course also seems egregious in retrospect.

That looks like Ballard Street cardboard pants inserts. (Now on sale at Dennis’ store!). Those things are strong.

That was a TV movie long time ago, except that it was a German POW camp and a glider, not paper airplanes.
