Looks like Calvin just got 216 breaks!!

Sigh, all the action is off-panel today!

Very clever of Mr. Watterson to make the last panel extra wide, with just the edge of the commotion in view. Gives it a greater sense of immediacy.

I have a cat that sleeps much of the day, and will get up and wander to the feeding dish or litter box rather slowly, but if you move a little red dot around on the floor, he will go positively warp speed chasing it around!

calvin: “…give me a break!”

Hobbes: (Always happy to oblige) “One break coming up.”

The movement of prey ignites the innate attack instincts.

I suppose that’s true. The one most relaxed is he who knows when the sh1t is about to get real because he’s going to do it.

I have a cat; can confirm.

Hobbes is simply looking out for Calvin’s coronary health. An attack like that would definitely clean out the arteries…might have to clean out the pants too.

Calvin, the phrase “let sleeping dogs lie”, traces its roots to old central Asian saying, “let sleeping tigers lie, or you die.”

Given that nothing happens, Hobbes HAD to do something.

My cats have frequently used a similar technique I call “sleep hunting”. The cat will nap in front of a gopher hole until the gopher thinks the cat is part of the landscape. When the gopher starts moving around just a little too far out of the hole. Bam!

I snuck up on a gopher over a five-minute period by moving slowly and waiting until the gopher “recalibrated” me as a non-threat. I got my face with two feet of his hole and, the next time he popped up, said, “Boo!” I’ll probably never see another gopher have a heart attack. :)

LOL…. Hobbes is a cat, Calvin. Of course he sleeps a lot.

It’s happen’n now.

You make stuff happen all the time, Calvin. Or rather, you make stuff up.

Many predators conserve their energy.

Typical little boy, easily bored.

One break, served to order, coming up!

For Hobbes, every year is a leap year, every day is Feb. 29th.

That last panel looks very easy to draw, which means trouble for Calvin!

Watterson was very thoughtful to keep all the gushing blood offscreen for us.

Beware! Hobbes will pounce on you every time you holler, “I’m home!”

Hobbes is always in the mood for a snack.

Gotta rest up for his main snooze!

Just goes to show a psychotic episode can sneak up on you.
