Tornadoes have always scared me. I used to live in the south suburbs of Chicago. My bedroom was on the 2nd floor! During the summer I would practically live in the basement (which we fortunately had). Here in Arizona, most houses don’t have basements. But fortunately, tornadoes are a rare event. I never enjoyed thunderstorms much until we moved here. Now I welcome them (rain is always welcomed in the desert southwest).
I’ve reached an age where my presbyopia is defeating my progressive bifocals: I had work like a dog to get the last “I’m only half way through my rant” seen properly. I never did work out what you may have said in the first panel (sigh). Onward and upward, Dan, preferably not through tornados.
In North Texas, where I used to live, very few houses have basements because the clay soil is unstable — it expands and contracts so much that it creates major engineering problems for basements (and foundations, too, but you can’t just decide not to have one of those).
No tornadoes in my neck of the woods thank goodness. Just fires and floods. Glad you guys were safe and the cats survived detention. Rick was the smartest one, staying in the tube. I’ve heard that the safest place if I recall correctly.
My old dog, Randy, used to head to the basement every time the wind blew. He was not one to take chances. (I think I’d rather face a tornado than the enormous spiders that live down there.)

This has gotta be one of the most realistic cartoon strips ever! Yes! (And “myirt”!—sounds like a computer device . . )

Almost zero basements where I am. I’ve often wondered why, but never cared enough to find out.

Radar has detected a huge Rant front moving in! Residents are advised to take shelter until it blows over!

The storm warning should, at least, last long enough for a good rant. Don’t these weather people know anything??

I wish I had a basement. I would live there as I like the coolness.

In Oklahoma, we wait till the tornado warning is sounded for our neighborhood, and then we rush outside with our cameras and video recorders.
