Better for the plugger to collect junk mail than fill up the house with junk.

The brats in our neighborhood sometimes put dead things in the mailboxes, so it was best to check before actual mail delivery.

As another commenter said you never know what other items will be put in the box other than the mail. Best to always check ;-)

Sunday is the day you check for the mail your neighbors inserted that the substitute mailman mis-delivered on Saturday.

Actually it’s now the day I check for ALL mail. In the early days of COVID hysteria when they were telling us we just about had to disinfect everything before bringing it into the house, I got in the habit of waiting until Sunday to pick up the week’s mail. I figured the COVID germs would all have died in the Arizona heat by then. 99.9% of the mail is unnecessary junk anyway. I get the USPS informed delivery emails that tell me what’s coming so if something important happens to come in mid-week, I’ll know. But 99% of the time I just bring home 10 pounds of coupons and flyers every Sunday, go through it to pull out the one or two envelopes that are really of any significance, and dump the rest into either the recycle bin or through the shredder depending on whether it has any personal information on it.

Ever since I signed up for the USPS Informed Delivery site I don’t have to schlep down to the mailbox to see if anything was delivered.

When we lived in the country, I would go for a walk each day on the weekends. As I turned back down our driveway, I always checked the mail box just to see what might have end up in it or straighten it back out after one of the neighboring farmers bumped it with their machinery.

I check the mail on Sunday because the only reason to keep up with which day it is, since I retired, is that in the fall I can watch football on that day.

Some of us plugger may remember when the PO DID deliver mail on Sundays during the Christmas holidays when the loads where so heavy with cards and such! It took my mom some years before she realized they weren’t doing that anymore.

I check the mail once a week, even then it’s not full, except when it gets close to election time, then I have to empty the junk out 2 or 3 times per week.

In Denver we are getting occasional Sunday delivery, to make up for the days during the week that they didn’t deliver

Yep… We have nice neighbors who, if they live nearby, will hand deliver mail to the correct box.

You check Saturday because the mailman might have come Friday after you had checked.

I check my mail not every day, but every few days. Even just recently, my ready-to-pay bills haven’t come in; had to resort to using last month’s bills to make estimates.

I usually only check about once a week since nothing good comes, until this week when my first Medicare card arrived. Yea!!!

I check the mail every day because it’s too hard to keep track of Sundays and holidays.

Ummm… no? Really? Does anyone actually check on non-delivery days if they haven’t missed the day before or something like that? I have checked on a holiday or two, due to forgetting when it was one of those Federal days that hardly anybody actually celebrates.

I’m reminded of a July 4th incident this year. I live in an apartment building with a lobby with all the locking mailboxes on the wall. I went down to the lobby on the 4th to mail a card to my niece. A group of several friends saw that I had my mail key in my hand, and reminded me that there was no mail because it was a holiday. Apparently they thought I had suddenly gone deaf, because they started getting louder saying “There’s no mail today”! I finally got the card out of my walker basket and waved it and said “I’m MAILING this!” It’s funny now, but it was kind of bizarre. I don’t know if they feared that I would break my wrist, or a bomb would go off, or just what would happen if I actually checked the mailbox on a holiday, LOL!
