If I were still a classroom teacher, I’d feel the same as Frank. But, in the years since retirement, August has simply meant another hot, muggy end to summer. What a relief.
They didn’t go to the movies? When I was a kid we had two single screen theaters across the street from each other. They were the Palace and the Queen. The roof collapsed on the Palace in the mid 1980’s and the owners donated it to the city and they made it an outdoor theater. The Queen was abandoned for years and got holes in the roof. It has been restored by a preservation group. One of the first things they did was fix the crown so it would light up and revolve, something it hadn’t done in years; I didn’t even know the crown was supposed to rotate.

Which raises the question, “Do adults enjoy adultery as much as children enjoy childhood?”

Nice summer. Ernest left off, “Did summer reading”. That book report’s going to be their first assignment when they get back to school.
