Week 2 of a Sunday Snoopy Beagle Scouts sequence.

I love how they defy gravity in panel 3….

I guess a four birds in the hand is worth one dog in the bush.

That log looks pretty dangerous Snoopy.

One October I walked out of a corn maze with my daughter riding on my shoulders. The young attendant at the exit looked at us and commented that we were geniuses and that if there were rules, we would also be cheaters. I just smiled and said, “Do tell.” as we headed for the cider barn and then to pick out our pumpkin.

That’s Snoopy staying a-head of things…

I feel like this would be more interesting if they started with 5 birds and ended with only 4, not acknowledging what happened to the 5th one.

Over hill, over dale,

Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hee!

in the field of big tall weeds

Shout out your numbers loud and strong.

For where’er you go,

that the Beagle Scouts are hiking along.

The Bird Scouts learn about teamwork. And cool hats.

Careful in that tall grass…there might be a Queen Snake in there…

And as Linus always says, once you’ve been chomped by a Queen Snake, you’ve had it!

In the scene where Snoopy and the birds are looking down, I am reminded of the lemmings from Non Sequitur.

This Beagle Scout sequence was the inspiration for the Cub Scouts PSA commercial years later. It’s a pack of fun!

That was so funny when it seemed that Woodstock was walking in mid-air in the fields. Surprise! It was only Snoopy and his camping buddies.

The birds are probably better at g etting along in the wild than Snoopy is.
