Years ago when hiking with my father and older brother, we didn’t have enough water in our canteens. Fortunately, we found on the trail a big, deep, melted puddle of snow to refill our canteens therefrom. Ah, was the snow cold and refreshing!

What difference does getting an expensive purebred make? He would be likely to get more problems with a purebred than with a mixed breed. No offence intended to ethical breeders. I am thinking of puppy mills or people who are just unclear on the concepts of proper breeding. My last 3 dogs have all been beagles, all pure bred, but all came from hunters who were breeding their dogs for themselves. They had a vested interest in the health and quality of their dogs. I will only get beagles bred by hunters from now on – hopefully from the same one I got my current dog from. She is the best! He loves that I have taken in an adult champion hunter from him and trained her for dog therapy work. Beagles love a job, and she is very good at it. I saw the potential in her the first time I picked her up, and she had never seen me before. My dog just loves people.

Hiking: verb: going somewhere that you didn’t need to go that requires a return trip! To hell with that. I did enough “hiking” when I was in the Marine Corps!
