When I was a kid (in the 50s), our small town held an annual Easter egg hunt for kids under 10 in the park. A starter pistol would go off and we would scour the City Park for eggs (colored by the City Council [their wives]), candy, and a few special gold eggs. The gold eggs each held the number of a special prize. That could be a $1, a bracelet or ring, a Matchbox car; but unfortunately, those special prizes sometimes were baby chicks (dyed ‘Easter’ colors) and baby rabbits. Not the best idea in the world. It isn’t a good idea to give little kids live pets which are going to sicken and die in a few days. Twice my prizes were unweaned bunnies. Luckily our mother cat was nursing kittens both times and she and the kittens accepted the bunnies. The first one, named Lash Larue [tv western], didn’t survive very long. He and the kittens were sunning on the porch and he hopped away and was caught by the neighbor’s dog. We were smarter with the second one and built a hutch so he could enjoy the outside. Willie [Sweet William — we were reading a book about the meaning of flowers. Sweet William = gallantry], was a good friend for several years. It took several years and a lot of kids’ tears and parents’ anger [and a city council election cycle], but the city finally stopped handing out live animals and switched to stuffies.

The Yelp comments should be taken with a grain of salt.

Largest litter on record was 19. Four were stillborn, but even 15 is more nipples than most queen cats have.

Funny cartoon, but as Bob Barker would say “Spay and neuter your pets”.
