Slacker, I’ve been on the donate list for years now.

Just as I suspected, Wikipedia doesn’t have an entry for “wikiguilt”.

What I’d like to see is a solution-oriented funding model for various purposes including journalism, software development, and even websites. My tag is CSB for Charity Share Brokerage. Not quite sure how to apply it to Wikipedia, however, because what problems is Wikipedia trying to inform us about? It’s supposed to be NPV, right?

But I’ve never detected much interest in the CSB idea. Even less comprehension, but maybe you have a question? Even better if you have a better idea, but so far none of Wikipedia’s ideas about why I should send money has persuaded me… I donate to a few charities, but I’m not so rich.

I use Private Browsing when reading this site, and sometimes I’ll go off to Wikipedia while still on private browsing. Sometimes I’ll get the donation plea, which I don’t get on regular browsing because I’ve already donated. I thought Wikipedia doesn’t use cookies.

I smile when I scroll past it. I only use Whack-o-pedia as a last resort and only for stuff that’s so basic it won’t get affected by their editorial bias. Having known several prominent researchers whose pages get edited/taken down/locked out/labeled “pseudoscience”…sorry, but I have little faith in the site. I find I usually have to fact-check them.

20 years ago, I created a wiki article. The mods deleted it, with mostly insulting comments. Someone else created that page 10 years later, and that one still exists. I still hold a grudge and refuse to donate for that reason.

I do not donate to Wikipedia. And I use Wikipedia. And I feel no guilt… Go figure.

Is this even a thing? I have never heard of this before.

I donate to pages and causes that I know my employer will match. My employer donates to a lot of causes I don’t agree with on multiple levels so I figure this is my way of making my employer go against the norm of big business.

If you use it, donate recurrently and go past the pleas. If you don’t use it, wtf, leave it. It’s not free it’s donor funded like some radio stations.

No wiki-guilt here, I’ve never seen a plea for money but then I’ve only visited wiki about three times. I find more accurate information elsewhere.

I wonder what he would look like if he donated and a few days later found his credit card had been used to buy thousands of dollars worth of goods and gift cards by a person in Nigeria?

Wiki asked me for $2… I gave ‘em $5 and asked for change. I still haven’t heard back!

I’d like a site that is neutral/objective. I don’t want a slant in either direction.

I’ll confess, occasionally it works and I chip in.

Sometimes donating to charity can turn out to be a nuisance. I was feeling flush last December, so I gave $500 to four charities. Now I get mail from them asking for more plus mail from a whole bunch of charities I didn’t donate to asking for money.

I have half a mind to call those charities that I donated to and yell at them for selling my name to other charities. And, if I donate to them again, I may include a note saying something like, “This is an annual donation to you. If you ask for money again before the year is up, or if you sell or give my personal information to any other group, I will never donate to your organization again.”

There are many worthy causes out there, but I can’t support them all. And giving my information out after I gave you money seems like a betrayal.

Much of wiki is pretty reasonable, but there are some unfounded leftward swings on political matters. No donation. The only things I pay for are WSJ and Babylon Bee. I like the advertising model.

Wikipedia is badly biased and unreliable on many topics. Not gives a thing to em. Even Wikipedia co founder Larry Sanger slams that site is full of bias and propaganda.

Let Soros and Gates foot the bill. They tell it what to say and what to print. . It changes to suit the liberal fascists.

I love wikipedia and make regular monthly donation. But I still need to scroll past the plea when it pops up a couple of time a year. Wouldn’t mind if they could have pledge free wiki portal so sustaining donors could skip the pleas like my public radio’s pledge free stream during their pledge weeks but still better to have the occasional hassle rather than no information at all

Last week when they started to turn of changes to sites based on politics.

Pig, even if you’re single and pay for internet service, a mortgage, grocery bills, vehicles, utilities, property taxes, etc., there’s no room for Wikiguilt.

Contribute to writing and correcting articles. Ideally that is how it should be done. Then you can ignore their donation requests. The most important part of what happens is that, not the money.

Screw the Guilt Trip, Pig. Everyone out there is angling to get some of your money. Ignore them all, secure in the knowledge that they can afford it more than you can….

Wikipedia, to me, is an incredibly useful resource. I donate monthly, and when they launch an appeal, I chip in for that, too.
