As a kid(girl, btw, a really weird one lol), I used to rescue worms all the time. Never bothered me. Wouldn’t call them slimy, though. Slightly moist, sure, fragile and delicate, definitely. Not slimy.
Uhm, worms don’t drown. They just dont breathe the way needed to drown. They come above ground because the sun can’t dry them out during rain, so basically they come up because they can.

I cant shake the suspicion that the worms are arranged into a secret message in some arcane language.

Wow! Saving worms from a little body of water with no fish. How heroic!

I hope Marigold is able to put them back in the ground before… they dry out.

They sure wiggle plenty hard to get away!

so would Marigold be taking the worms to someone’s lawn as the worms’ “safer ground”?

Why do I suddenly find myself empathizing with Marigold, of all beings?

Makes it all the more fitting that Marigold is likened to a cat. They like to remind us of how mere we are as mortals too:-(.

Just give them their wiggle room.

The common misconception is that worms come out of the ground so they won’t drown, but in fact it’s the opposite.
They are getting too dry under the soil and they need the water to breathe and not dry out.
A worm can survive submerged as long as the water has enough oxygen in it.
but the rain and the worms need for moisture is nature’s way of playing into feeding the birds.
Marigold should rather be protecting them from the birds and other things that want to eat them.

That “human” was uncalled for. I bet the worms don’t want to touch unicorns either.
