I’ve been reading the comments on yesterday’s Wizard of Id Classics. In reference to 42nd Street, I mentioned the later stage adaption and that the songs were adapted from 42nd Street and other Warner Bros musicals of the period including Gold Diggers of 1933 and Gold Diggers of 1935 before mentioning that the other Gold Diggers movies were Gold Diggers on Broadway, Gold Diggers of 1937 and Gold Diggers In Paris and that there was a Porky Pig cartoon by Tex Avery called Gold Diggers of 1949.
Someone later commented that that was the first Porky Pig cartoon. On the contrary, it was the first Porky cartoon by Tex Avery. Porky first appeared in a Friz Freleng cartoon called I Haven’t Got A Hat in which he delivered a stuttering version of The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.
An ambassadorship is a good way to sideline political adversaries. That was why President Franklin Roosevelt appointed Joseph P. Kennedy to the Court of Saint James.
