CA is doing a reasonable job of laying out expectations, giving people options and keeping it legal to sell used vehicles. And requiring auto manufacturers to sell enough high efficiency vehicles to meet an increasing requirement. Does that fix the problem of sleazy used car salespersons? Not even SLIGHTLY!

I’m pretty sure California will not allow NEW gas powered vehicles to be sold. Everything else remains the same. Makes a big difference, one small word.

And the FatCats will buy their I.C. cars in Wyoming, register them in Delaware, drive them in L.A. Problem solved.

I don’t quite understand John’s point here. The last panel is poignant, but either way, I love my Nissan Leaf EV. Get yours today.

Electric Veh…please remember, the gov thinks, will always think, they have as much or more right to your hard earned money as you do. They are still going to want their gas taxes. One or another they WILL collect them. Through the yearly tag renewal, or some other way. So, don’t go spending any savings you accumulate. At least not right away. It’s Sunday, not a good day to rain on someone’s parade.

Example: The California Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) Tax would shift the state from the pump tax to a system where drivers pay based on mileage. Proposed state legislation could replace the state gasoline tax of 52.9 cents per gallon with a fee of $0.05 cents or so per mile driven.Jul 19, 2022

That’s going to make any California Based trucking Companies REALLY unhappy. Looks like they will be moving their headquarters out of state just so they can continue to buy new Semi tractors…

In the early 1970s California’s Interstate highway 5 was a huge change in safer, faster north- south travel, the increase of gas stations, lodging, and the cities that grew up around them. Before that, I remember the road signs saying “no gas or service for next xxx miles”. That infrastructure is already in place for the addition of charging stations.

Slightly off. In 2035 they won’t sell and new gasoline or diesel cars. Used gasoline and diesel cars will still be available to buy.
