It depends on what your goals are. Do you want to siphon money to the obscenely rich, shut down institutions that train you to think and remove personal rights? Or would you prefer to live in a society that’s open at the top, allows people to make the best of themselves by exercising all their rights?
If this government hand out is a bad then, then eliminate:the child tax credit, the married tax advantage, federal Tax Deductions for Charitable Donations,Tax Relief in Disaster Situations.
You know what everybody used to agree on? That predatory lending and loan-sharking were WRONG.
“How much was the loan?” “$50,000.”“How much have you paid?” “$90,000.”“How much do you still owe?” “$140,000.”
They loan-sharked 18-year-olds and we’re debating about being forgiven a drop in the bucket of that loan? If they’ve paid the principle, all the interest should be removed. It should never have been done in the first place.
Meanwhile, Donnie-boy has never paid back a loan in his life. He just declares bankruptcy and stiffs his creditors.
What should happen is that the predatory lending practices identified by Ignatz, above, should be eliminated.
.
As Goodwyn admits to in his cartoon, Republicans don’t want ANY forgiveness for ANY student loans at ANY time.
Republicans hate the idea of an educated population and will expend a lot of effort fighting against it. “We love the poorly educated.”
.
For they type of loans Republicans believe should be forgiven, see the list of PPP loans that were made to Republican legislators and were forgiven with the blessings of all Trump Disciples.
When the dust settled, the total cost to taxpayers of the bailout of the banking / finance industry under Bush was $498 billion. But he was a Republican, so that does not count.
The PPP loans were intended for employers to retain and pay employees. As it seems around me, that money all went to buying new property and/or remodeling their businesses. With little or none of the money actually going to the employees they were supposed to retain with those loans.
The most glaring of those being the airlines, that took in lots of PPP money to retain employees, yet laid them off, gave themselves bonuses, and now are having trouble finding replacements for the people they let go, that have since found other employment.

I don’t agree that ’it’s not enough’.
Nor do I disagree.
