It is hard to reconcile today’s strip with the one from two days ago when Mel was telling Gil and Mimi “You two were so good to me.” Was she being sarcastic?

Because abortion is illegal in Milford? So she’s upset because anti-abortion people like Gil led to Roe to be overturned? I had assumed she was upset because she inferred he meant that having Toby was a mistake.

P3 – Barajas sending us a message thru Mel?

Get a stiff upper lip Mel. There have been too many tears and Kleenex’s already this new school year.

Screw her. Go back to Los Angeles and take your child — however s/he self-identifies — with you. No need for Gil to be on the defensive here. ACDC T-shirt is a nice touch.

Is Mel still bitter because Gil didn’t take the bait all those years ago?

The most confusing things today are the two (or three?) glass frame styles and what’s going on with Mel’s top with sweater type collar in P1, the who the h*ll knows what the black thing in P2 is and then the standard tee shirt in P3?

Tell us, Mel, what could be worse than flying back to LA? Driving to Hawaii perhaps?

This is weird. Gil couldn’t ORDER her to get an abortion, and I assume she asked his opinion, because it would a bizarre thing to volunteer. So what, exactly, is he supposed to have done?

It’s hard to imagine she looks at Toby and wishes he had never been born.

What is happening?

Mel has aged about 20 years since her first appearance. Looks older than Mimi and Gil.Does she regret having Toby?

This story line is really awful. Divorce, Abortion???? Come on, this is a sports strip. Get rid of the new writer. Lately, the strip is confusing.

P1: Now we know what General Putnam really meant when he said “Don’t fire till you see the whites of their eyes.”

P1 & 2: Did she make those earrings out of her own hair, or did she find hair dye to exactly match her earrings? Only Miss Clairol knows…

P2: Fly to LA or worse…Fresno? Stockton?

Much of the dialogue in this strip makes no sense. It’s really gone downhill.

P 4: Toby cold-cocks Gil

Is Gil transgendered? Is he having the baby,…this storyline is confusing as heck! C’mon wrap this disaster up!

What the hell does this have to do with high school sports!!??

Is it just me or has this strip gotten waaaay off the beaten path? It used to be about the average high school coach and his students and who was gonna win the big game…now it’s a bunch of “social justice warrior” crap and some left-wing story writer’s laundry list of woes. If I want that I will watch the nightly news with Lester. I read the comics to be entertained and maybe get a laugh.

P 2 (Mimi’s thought bubble): “…is that hair color real???…”

Looks like for a month now the comic, or it used to be one, has been hijacked by the woke. I’ll give it two more weeks and if they are still on this theme, goodbye.

Holy cow! It’s Jenkins-era Christian Gil Thorp vs. Barajas-era woke Gil Thorp, engaged in mortal combat! Holy cow!

Gil did nothing wrong, then or now, in regards to this. This mom, however, has certainly failed when she allowed her kid to transition at a young age. Gil has, likewise, failed by allowing that non-binary stuff with his daughter.

I like the first word balloon in P3. Pretty sure that it’s a callout to Gil starting to move into modern times. And speaking of times, how many times do I have to ask you to read Mopped Up Thorp?
