Anthony may be stalkerish, but at least he knows to put the library book on the shelves and not try to shove it in the panel border like Elizabeth is trying to do in panel 3.
I see some people saying that Anthony gives them stalker vibes. Let’s have a vote, shall we? Respond to this post, either with “Yes, stalker-ish” or “No, not stalker-ish”.
Was the strip set at a time when stalking was considered normal? Since this is 1993, it is possible. At the time, Michael and Anthony would be watching Saved by the Bell, where Zack Morris’ pursuit of the girlfriend he believed he was destined to be with was similar to what Anthony is doing now.
All of you making stupid remarks about stalking should check out the reddit “Lets Not Meet” stories. Could teach you something about what stalking really is.
I can actually relate to Elizabeth. When I was her age, and a little older (and even now, as a matter of fact!), I couldn’t take a hint, if it were written on paper, wrapped around a brick, and thrown at my head.
“….**siiiigh**…. Some day, I hope my family and friends destroy someone else’s marriage to push some gross, creepy, whiny, loser on me… because that’s who my parents think I should marry….”

That’s Anthony! I didn’t recognize him yesterday on the bus. His hair was redrawn and recolored from the original. He looks better now!

That’s how I met my ex-husband in high school. He kept showing up where I went to for English class.

When a boy in Junior High, which is what Middle School was called, wanted to meet me, he just walked right up to me and started a conversation.

Elizabeth, if you need help with boys, go to your parents, or a trusted adult like Miss Edwards. Do not take Michael’s advice, he spells sex 9-7-6!

Watching… watching… always watching. Say something to her! Otherwise, she will think you are creepy ;-)

I would guess his silent interest in her is being overstated so that we get the idea. I don’t see stalking at all, and I have been stalked.

First it was Gordon and Michael’s stalking of Allyson; now this.
