Our regular pickup is Monday so Sunday is our Garbage Day. SWMBO has a particular obsession with getting myself to tote the aforesaid bags to the alley. Her varried subtle and not so subtle hints have been a long running joke between us.
I didn’t expect the can to be over flowing. How can two people generate so much trash in a week? My can looks to be that size (no not that can, my trash can) and it would take the three of us 5 or 6 weeks to fill it to over flowing.
We celebrate Garbage Eve with eggnog and carols and let the kids carry one bag each. They’re so excited on Garbage Morning – whispering and their little feet patting down the stairs to see if Garbage Claws has been there!
In my neighborhood, if you put out garbage cans the night before, a herd of javelina would be grateful as they knock the cans over to get the goodies inside.
Early on in the pandemic, I realized that we were living in a different world when the garbage trucks started arriving from the opposite direction. Apparently all the extra household trash necessitated route reorganization.
Also, for the first time in my entire life, garbage day is not Friday. Every house I’ve ever lived, Friday trash pickup has been a constant. A month or so ago, the county switched us to Thursday. I had to put a reminder in my phone to roll the cans out on the new night. It feels a little bit like I’ve converted to a new religion and have to get used to going to services on a different day.
Arlo is correct – it’s been only 6 days, not a full week, since the last garbage collection. Pick-up was a day late last week on account of the Labor Day holiday,
The older I get the faster time passes. Its already Sept 15th for heaven’s sake. seems like just yesterday it was August and we thought that the 100 degree days were gone for the year. But nope, even the 100 degree days are coming back at least according to the 10 day forecast from Weather Bug they are
jarvisloop had it right. its from the poem by john donneAny man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
My husband must think the garbage truck comes a different day each week, completely random. He is always surprised when he hears it come on Tuesday and Friday.
My town changed from Monday pickup to Wednesday. Plus, I just retired and every day seems alike. Also, I’m now the first street for pickup (at the buttcrack of dawn) . After I missed a pickup day or two, I set up a phone alarm for Tuesday evening.

I like roller bins. We had steel trash cans when I was a kid and hauling them out to the curb wasn’t pleasant.

The perception of time passing more quickly is a symptom of aging. Yet onlookers call it “slowing down”.

Wheelie bins are so much fun. The neighbourhood bears and trash pandas (raccoons) just love them.

Look on the bright side Arlo, you don’t have a giant dump box sitting on the curb in front of your house like some neighborhoods have.

Just wondering: Why is it always the husband’s job to take down the garbage? Same here at my house.

With the large city provided containers I only have to put my garbage out every three weeks or so,

Around here if you but your bin on the curb the evening before pickup it’s liable to be raided by a bear.
