Blossom’s purrs were so loud that I always said they’d measure on the Richter scale if they were any louder, LOL. I welcome the giant earthshaking purrs!
Yesterday Finn, avatar cat, slept on my lap for the first time, complete with purr heard for the first time…a lovely deep rumble. I was dozing and was delighted to wake up to find him there. Usually he just walks across my lap on his way to the couch. He is slowly becoming an indoor cat. It has been six months since he invited himself in. He still gazes out across the meadow from the screen porch but, now that the weather is cooling, he doesn’t stay out as long. When I want him to come in, the word “treats” is an instant lure. Which is a good thing as word has it that a second neighborhood cat has apparently fallen victim to the local bobcats. A neighbor who is a naturalist says the bobcats don’t look on domestic cats as lunch but as rivals for lunch who must be eliminated. You would think we have more than enough mice, voles, rabbits, etc to go around but apparently not.
Albert LOVED to lie on his Man’s chest. It his favorite place in all the world. Occasionally he would lie on me. It could be a bit startling to wake up because an 18 pound cat has landed on you chest and begun purring in your face.
And he had an incredibly loud purr. You could hear him across the room. “Loudest purr in Dorchester”, we would say. The day we brought Bartholomew home, eventually he settled down and started purring, so loudly we could hear him from across the room. I started to say “Loudest purr…” and started crying. Albert’s Man gently said “The previous champion retired undefeated. It’s okay to have a new titleholder.”
A neighborhood orange tabby adopted us. We named him Buzz because you could hear his purr from a few feet away. He had a personality like Tommy’s and was quite large, too. If he’d been a person, he’d have been a surfer he was so laid back. Dude! I like to imagine him in a Hawaiian shirt a la Tommy. He was with us many years. Now buried with honors in the backyard. Miss him still.
This morning, for some strange reason, I woke up with a cat on either side of me, licking my face and purring loudly. I have the sneaky suspicion they were trying me out for taste because we are out of treats and I can’t get more until my money comes in on Friday.
Many moons ago, I rescued a cat from my former job as a Vet tech, and dog and cat groomer. I renamed the beautiful white simi-long haired, and green eyed boy, Meow! Meow was a sweet monster who enjoyed waking me up, by draping himself across my face and purring, LOUDLY! You can bet not being able to breathe woke me up, quickly! Oh how I miss my furry and funny pillow!
When we go to bed, Hamilton has to sleep while making physical contact with me. Even if he is not right on top of me, he reaches out a paw and falls asleep touching me. He often falls asleep on my chest and then kind of pours himself off until he is in the area between my arm and side. It makes rolling over a challenge.
That sort of happened to me this last February. I took a nap with just one little tuxedo cat (Fred) on me and by the time I woke up one of the Siameses and the big black floofy abyss of the Norwegian Forest cat were all on top of me. I woke up because I could not breathe. The Mrs said she could hear them purring from the kitchen. Life with cats is great.
Further kitten or rather cub news. The Smithsonian National Zoo has a new litter of cheetah cubs. Two males and the first litter for their 4 yr old Mom.
I love this Halloween Special! My all-time favorite lines are “maybe we can find a hint of a grisly death or horrible tragedy”, and the Woman’s reply, “I’ll bring the kids”.

I’m not seeing the problem here! :D (Except that the biggest cat is going to want feeding.)

Isn’t this goofy story based off of “Wait Till Martin Comes” from the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books?

If I ever have to choose my own method of execution, I’m going with “suffocated under the weight of many cats.” I’d like to die the same way I live.

When I wake up due to loudly purring
Lift my head, I’m still yawning
Then again I’m in the middle of a dream
On the couch, snore then scream (snore then scream)
Please, don’t wake me
No, don’t shockshake me
Leave me where I am
I’m only sleeping
Every cat I see seem to get much bigger
When I cry loud they get quicker
Runnin’ everywhere at such a speed
‘Til they find there’s no need (there’s no need)
“Please, don’t puff my tail
With your milewide wail
Because after all
We’re only purring"…

One purr makes them larger
While one purr makes you small
And the nightmare smothers give you
Won’t do anything at all
Don’t scare Goldie
When she’s ten feet tall
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And time is running backwards
For more spooky nights ahead
Remember what the Robber Mouse said
Stay in bed
Filled with dread

My horror story is waking up with a cat on my chest…
Jabbing his paw in and out of my mouth.
Either: 1) he thought I was purring wrong; 2) my snoring was too loud even for him; or 3) I stopped breathing due to sleep apnea from my snoring.
I have since fixed the snoring and have not found a paw in my mouth since.
