Freedom! Thanks to the progressive politicians who protect freedom of expression for ultra violent and sexual movies! We know that children will never see those, right?
Piers Anthony in his Xanth series referred to the television as the “hypno-gourd.” Not too far from wrong. I would have been allowed to watch TV after school only if I had done my homework and chores. I learned to get those things done fairly quickly (except for math, that was always a pain) and then I could pretty much do as I pleased.
I’m at the age where I cannot watch television for more than about 30 minutes at a time. I hear the “death-clock” ticking down and feel the urge to do more productive things. Fortunately, we live in an age of easy recording for “time-shift” watching.
Of course, when I was Calvin’s age, I had done my homework before getting home and dashed straight in to watch “Popeye the Sailor”. :)

Your parents will have something else in mind, Calvin? Like, say, do your homework and clean your bedroom.

How old is this comic? The TV is out of the 1950’s.

I grew up in the TV generation (1950s) – we’d rather be OUT than watching TV. TV was a thing for “after dark” and on Saturday morning for cartoons.

Old TV? Show me a modern flat screen that levitates like that.

Nothing wrong with using your free time to relax and do nothing, as long as you’re not neglecting any responsibilities.
