There are a number of different theories about how to raise children. I remember hearing about one a while back that claimed you’re never supposed to say “no” to children. Example:
Child: Mommy, can I play with these matches?
Mom: Of course, dear. You know I would never say “no” to you, no matter what you ask.
Heard a story on Etiquette Hell where a new teacher’s mother showed up on her first day teaching and told her class of junior high students to be nice to her because it was her first teaching job and she was nervous. Talk about throwing your kid to the sharks!
Reminds me of friends w/out kids who told our group how to raise ours. Years passed and they acknowledged their mistake. Everybody laughed and laughed.
Amen. These lovely dovey, don’t bruise the little darlings’ psyches, let them express themselves obliviots (and parents) are just what our kids DON’T NEED

To paraphrase K in Men In Black: “A child is smart, but children are dumb, panicky, and mean.”

I’ve seen kids running rampant in restaurants because their parents are their enablers.

seems like more and more of these are turning up in education with even more “extreme” psychological ideas.
