As kids, we used to chew on the stalks. We also ate Rhubarb cobbler too.

The leaves will make you sick not dead. Funny story. Community garden near where I worked. Would walk down to see how it was doing and talk to the gardeners. One was growing rhubarb. He said someone stole the leaves not the stems. Must have thought it was collards or something. We both laffed on that one, whoopsie!

It does make sense though. I sometimes wonder about the first guy desperate enough to try eating a lobster for the first time. But all of that aside, after watching one of these shows like How Chocolate Is Made and all of the steps to turn inedible cocoa beans into edible chocolate, why did they stick with it to figure it out?

Didn’t like rhubarb as a kid. Now I love it and grew it in my gardens when I could. I remember being totally surprised to see it in a grocery store once. I thought it was one of those foods that was only grown in the family’s garden. I also see no reason to buy zucchini when it is so easy to grow.

I am amazed at how many foods we have learned to prepare and eat; foods that kill other mammals, like chocolate; foods like the fish that’s deadly unless prepared properly (how many died trying to get it right?); foods whose relatives are poisonous, tomatoes; and foods that kill when eaten at the wrong time of year, shellfish.

Never liked it. My mom used to stew it and it looked to me like a slimy, disgusting mess. My Better Half loves it & does the pie thing with it, but i won’t touch it. We did plant about $75 worth of starter roots a couple springs ago, and the deer ate every last one of them that very night.
