Woolly Bear caterpillars (black and brown) are fore casters of the severity of the upcoming winter. They are out eating, then they cocoon over winter and emerge in the spring as Tiger Moths.
I take winter over the hot summer, sitting in front of a roaring fire, drinking your choice of beverage, snuggling with your choice, maybe reading a book or magazine and hanging with your best friend from C – Kennel. Yip yip yip yip yip. Wait a minute I do that all year long, why wait for winter! Yip yip yip yip yip
Holy crap! That wooly caterpillar has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Everybody walk into the eye of the hurricane. It’s your only chance. …or LL Bean jackets. …whichever.

If that’s a woolyworm, it’s how farmers used to predict winter. Also by color.

Wooly worms seem to have disappeared in recent years. Used to see them regularly decades ago. Thanks all to the pesti-herbicide folks.

When the leaves on an oak tree are still green, don’t worry about winter, it isn’t even autumn yet!
