“I realize that you are an independent, smart and um . . . confident kitten, but believe me, you would much rather live with people, especially these people. Trust me, I’ve been around a while and I’ve seen a lot of things.”
Baba speaks the truth, grasshoppers…..and she isn’t going to take you to the other side. These youngsters have heard of the other side and don’t want to go there. But with Baba they’re in a Good Place..so no worries.
I think I see where this is heading. Ora Zella is going to insist on staying put, so the People are just going to have to annex her territory and move in on her.♥
I went looking for Baba Mouse’s backstory and found Georgia’s Meet The Creator interview. Not the first time I’ve read it, not the first time I’ve teared up reading it. I’m so glad I found BCN and Georgia persevered with it. I can’t imagine the world without this little family.
I love panel 2! I was wondering whether Baba would take them to the People or back to the shelter, but now we know. I also love the contrast between the others and Ora Zella in the first and last panels. I think Iggy is ready for some peace and care.
I’m trying to reconcile Baba having umpteen litters with having been born in a shelter. Even 20 years ago, most shelters didn’t let you bring home an unspayed female cat. They usually spayed them before offering them for adoption.
OFF TOPIC: I had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday. It feels weird to watch the TV without glasses for the first time in 60 years. My right eye will be done on November 14.
This has been a great storyline. I, for one, don’t know where this story is going, and that makes it very exciting. I almost want to get up at midnight to see the next installment as soon as possible; however, Hamilton would not like me disturbing his sleep.
Ah yes, the contrary stage of youth, for both kittens and humans—the “terrible twos,” and “tempestuous threes.” So looking at my chart, Ora Zella is between 2 and 3 months old. From what tortie owners have said, she will probably never grow up. That’s fine, little kit: it is never too late to have a happy childhood! (But do respect the wisdom of your elders. It will last longer that way!)
Of course the werewolf wants to live there. But the undead doesn’t look so sure. Maybe lead astray by the werewolf?
I had been thinking the werewolf was the Renfield kitty, but now it seems the poor undead is actually Renfield.
And as for the other side, maybe Tillie should put in an appearance. Bea won’t be scared (she did say she knew everyone alive and otherwise in the BPH). And I doubt Baba Mouse would be. But those two might be willing to go to the other, other side of the house.
Wow! I can’t believe it, 8:30 p.m. MST (aka PDT) . . . AND NO ONE HAS YET MENTIONED IT But then, maybe I’m imagining it. Putting in an EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! just to be safe. Am I imagining Ora Zella toebeans in Panel 1? And no one else has mentioned them yet (that I read)????

There we go! They had gone upstairs, away from where humans are probably looking for (Beatrix, at least).
Ora Zella, sweetie, listen to the smart cat. If you’re patient, you can live here after it gets all those good things.

Regardless of which “other side” Baba is referring to, it’s a paradise over there and it’s time to cross over…

It’s OK, kits. When you get to the other side, the trumpets will not sound for you. Not this time.

Ora Zella has serious parkour chops. And I definitely giggled at her nose-in-the-air “no, we want to live here”. Iggy doesn’t look quite so convinced.

I don’t want any of the kittens to go to the ultimate other side, but I do hope we get to visit with those kitties who already HAVE crossed over.

Petula Clark: Downtown
You’re on you own and you don’t want to see people
You don’t want to go
Downstairs!
You want to stay right where you are, better by far
But Baba really knows
Downstairs!
…….
Just come on down and join us there is food and heat an litter
People who will care for you and make your life much better
How can you lose?
The life is much better there,
You can make new cat friends
You will find friends who care
Just go
Downstairs!
Where friends and people are!
Downstairs!
A better place by far!
Downstairs!
Come follow Baba Mouse now!
…….
Don’t run away again, here you will find your friends
There are cats who wait
Downstairs!
Maybe you’ll find a new home and some people who are really great
Downstairs!
…….
There’s a nice red comfy sofa where you can stretch out for a nap
Maybe you would like to curl up on a human’s lap
How can you lose?
The life is much better there
You can forget all your troubles
There are people who care
And cats
…….
Downstairs!
Right in this Big Pink House!
Downstairs!
Listen to Baba Mouse
Downstairs!
A better life’s waiting for you!

I mean, the addition is probably a lot quieter than the rest of the house. That’d be enough for me.

In quiet we had learn’d to dwell;
My very chains and I grew friends,
So much a long communion tends
To make us what we are:—even I
Regain’d my freedom with a sigh.
