This also applies to old people who need to make their IRA’s last.

This is a young guy. He’s probably not gonna fall for all those “missionaries serving the poor hurricane victims in Puerto Rico” scams that sincerely sympathetic older folx are prey to.

In this case the similarity between “guilt” and “Geld” is emphasized.

While in service in the ’50’s I signed up to buy savings bonds with some of my pay and had them sent to my mom. 12 years after I mustered out, I was married and my blue-eyed girl and I had two small sons. I asked Mom for them and she said she wanted to be sure I wasn’t going to buy something frivolous with the money. I said, ‘Mom, when you have a mortgage and small children, there isn’t any room for ‘frivolous.’ Don’t you remember?’ She said, ‘Oh. Right.’

Mom & Pops Savings & Loans is really a global financial institution based in Hong Kong. The guilt is an import from the Vatican.

The guilt trip about money thing is pretty universal without any regard to religions at all. The stereotypical comments here border mighty close on bigotry but many of you think that you are good [insert religion or sect here] and that oh it is all in good fun. It is not and it belittles you more than those you slight and it makes you appear to be small minded and horrid little twits

I know a parent who made her kids wait two weeks to buy something they thought they really wanted. Saved them from a lot of “nonsense” purchases. Probably a good rule for adults too!

Deflating inflation. I’ve noticed that many of the receipts scattered in from of my ATM have zero balances.

We that’s a pretty good idea. I might never have bought the motorcycle that took me over the cliff, if I had banked there. I most surely wouldn’t have replaced it.

In Lebanon, people have had to literally rob banks to get their own money. Yes, their economy is really that bad . Ours is just having a cyclical correction after all the anti-Covid spending (which was quite necessary).

As I’ve heard it: Jewish mothers were weaned on guilt, Catholic mothers were weaned on shame. Passive aggressive works, too. I can actually attest to that — Jewish married to a Catholic, both recovering.
