Never had a tortie? For some reason, I’m getting the idea, that somehow, someway, that’s going to change in the immediate future. Not sure just why I get that impression . . .
We had a tortie once. But the rules didn’t quite apply. With the exception of being a complete tortoiseshell, her body shape was nearly entirely Siamese. She carried herself proudly and was as silly as they came.
I’m so glad cats don’t have the size variability of dogs. The thought of Ora Zella growing as big as a Great Dane, and having all that physical power behind her considerable personality, makes that licked-to-death threat kinda terrifying …
My childhood cat, Min, defied the tortie stereotype. She was pretty sweet most of the time, especially with two little girls who just wanted to play with her.
Tortie owner here, too. Natasha (named appropriately after the Black Widow from Marvel) is still playful at seven years old, likes to cuddle with me in bed, and goes after my hand for chin and face skritches like no other cat I’ve ever seen. She also has a unique way of playing with my girlfriend’s dog, a two-year-old female labradoodle, that makes you think she’s being hostile but their interactions with each other are pretty entertaining. The cattitude is strong with this one!
Georgia said this about bonded pairs “In real life, they may not have started out as a bonded pair—but they certainly are now. Iggy and Ora Zella felt like a good opportunity to bring a bonded pair into the comic and highlight them in shelters. Adopting a bonded pair is a bit like creating an instant family. They already know each other and can have each other’s support and company as they adjust to new surroundings. That can sometimes make the adoption transition from shelter to new environment easier (sometimes! Every cat and situation is different, of course.) Plus, twice the cat cuddles!! It’s well worth it, if you have the room to open your home to them. I would also count Elvis and Puck as a bonded pair. They are incredibly close and have been from day one.”
Puckmosis: Ora Zedd and I are on our way to Afar to help with the Feast of Gratitude pies. Now I need someone to help Fresh and Salty Water Cats on their fishing trip.
Iggy Shipwright: I would love a chance to sail once again.
At the Water Cats’ Boat
Fresh: Welcome aboard, Iggy. I hear you are a sailor, too.
Iggy: Yes. I sailed the seven seas before my accident. But that’s another story for another day.
Salty: We understand. Glad to have you aboard.
Fresh: You’ve brought us luck, Iggy. Do you see what’s swimming over there?
As of late we had a week of nice warm weather despite it being November in New York, and of course, PK had decided it was outdoor Cat season one again and spent the week outside. She transformed into her usual semi-feral state and as the weather turned cold once again. I had to coax her inside. She did not take to this well and need some cuddle time with me to re-acclimate. As a result, except for eating, she perches on the top of my office chair. Anytime I lean back enough, I feel a tiny paw on my shoulder, and suddenly she is orbiting my head looking for a place to lay down. Like right now as I try to type this. If I let her, she will make me take a nap shortly as It makes me very sleepy.
Honor is a calico/Siamese/tabby/DLH, and she has attitude galore. I hope it gets her through and sees her home. We miss her terribly. I’m glad she’s chipped.
My tortie was rather retiring. Not particularly afraid of people, but not outgoing. She never bit anyone, but she used to harass one of my other cats mercilessly. As a foundling kitten, she’d hide under furniture and ambush her as she walked past. That’s how she got the name “Spook.”
Everything you see of Ora Zella in these strips — that’s Meimei. She was a cow cat, but she had a tortie soul. That’s her right behind Shadowman. She was more than a match for the big guy. https://flic.kr/p/2nCjZct
I have 2 lickers Ruke the Snowshoe and Meav the Tortie. I didn’t realize that licking was a tortie trait. I’ve had other torties and she’s the first licker. Meav does prefer licking the face. KK her calico sister loves ear scratches. At night after lights out KK comes onto the bed and straddles my arm then stick my fingers into her ear until I get the hint.
I know it’s close to the next strip, but I have NEVER heard of a tortie cat. Not that bea (both in strip and in real life) dosen’t look adorable i’m just confused
Also something I would’ve been criminally neglegent not to comment on: how my precious baby child looks like a very sad potato in that third panel. He just looks so sad and confused. Someone pet him. I’d say hug but tha twould make him more sad and confused.
Finally something I just noticed while saying that WOW Tommy’s woman has a high pain tolerance. Like I know Ora is only chewing on her through the shirt but she dosen’t even react. The same had The Woman understandably whelping in pain. It makes perfect sense though: Tommy’s Woman rescues cats and other animals for a living. This is not the first or last time a wild cat has bitten her, let alone gnawed on her shoulder. She faced a freaking possum at one point without any fear and having seen one on my back porch and despite knowing, like the strip outlined it was more scared of me than I was of it, i was still immensely creeped out. This woman is fearless.

I am folically challenged on the top of my head. One of my cats used to regularly groom the top of my head. Nothing like a like 80 grit on your scalp.

Toshie had a Masters in biting. Especially in the middle of the night if I dared to move, or put my arm out from under the covers.

And yes she was a Tortie.

Yup, Tortitude is a real thing. As is Orange cats only having one Brian cell. There is a reason stereotypes exist.

Our Tortie queen, Griggins, was a classic. She took no cr*p and took no prisoners. She was the smallest cat in the house and nobody messed with her.

I am depending on you, Georgia, work your magic. Make this all come out happy.
On a side note, 11/11/22 in St. Louis started off at 60 degrees, and this morning we woke to find snow on the ground. Got to love St. Louis weather.

Will Tommy’s woman realize that the two escapees need to be adopted out together?
Will Elvis knock another vase off a shelf or table?
Will the the Woman seal up the entrance to the addition once again, or will she turn it into a secret rendezvous location for her unnamed lover?
Tune in on Monday to find out the answer to these and other intriguing questions here, As The Litter Box Turns.

The neighbors moved and left the tortie and a red tabby behind. The neighborhood adopted them.
