I can relate. Butter side up is supposed to be a 50/50 chance. Might be for someone else, but not for me. For me, it’s more like 20/80. Butter side down 80% of the time. Sigh….
When toast falls from the counter to the floor it begins to rotate. The distance to the floor is only sufficient for one half of a rotation so the toast always lands butter side down. It is not the same as tossing a coin which imparts multiple rotations.
The probability of the toast landing butter side up os dependant on the cost of cleaning the carpet. Or you might have messed it all up by putting the butter on the wrong side.
Someone did a study involving table height, distance of toast from edge of table and rotational forces during free fall. It turns out there are significantly higher odds of toast landing butter side down on the floor. Of course, this assumes you set the toast down butter side up. If you do prefer your toast to land on the floor butter side up, you should set it on the table butter side down. Science!

I found the purr-fect solution to prevent the bread from landing “butter side down” – I just spread it with jam.

I don’t drop buttered toast on the floor often enough to generate reliable statistics.
