Our dogs were generally too large to install a doggie door for, sheer size would have allowed anyone to get in, though coming face to face with a couple of Rottweilers might have been unnerving if someone had.
Did not have doggie door but our English Sprocker Spaniel back in the day was a mud lover. We had to wipe his paws every time he came in. Buckles reminds me so much of him (miss you Snoopy). Now a lab mix is around. He is a very gentle, loving dog (he does have a bit of an attitude as all dogs) but different. Dogs are like humans, they are individuals and no two are alike.

The dog door should only let a dog into the mud room.

Buckles loves getting dirty just as much as Calvin does.

The ancient rule of give and take. You give one mess and take another.

Another reason I never wanted a dog door. The cats would have liked it.

What would having a doggie door do to prevent Buckles from making a mess? He would make a mess no matter which door he used.
