I attended school board meetings for my kids school in the late 60s. If you pointed out the short comings in the school district they instantly went to “executive session” and excluded parents. Made my decision easy to pull my kids out and put them in private school. My boys were light years ahead of the public school kids. My parents did the same thing for me but because I was “restless” (I learned discipline in Catholic school). Public school remembrances for me was warm milk, stale graham crackers, poor unmotivated teachers. I did learned to draw though…..
So school board meetings are the new mash up of wrestle mania and Jerry Springer now? This is what happens when people aren’t drinking enough beer and watching enough football.
School boards are targets of political agendas! Ohio is about to pass a law rendering the Educational Board powerless and will be subjected to politicians rule. This is how dictatorships begin! Taking away the rights of We the People, and the end result of electing GOP @$$-holes in office!
You need to take a different approach with the school board. A civics lesson on democracy, there is an election every few years. School Board members are elected public officials and answerable to the voters and taxpayers. There is also Fred. He was the last school board president. Bad test scores. The Students sing a song “Fred is dead and buried under the west wing of the high school” Fred did move away, we think?
From my experience (32yr of teaching) …only 2 kinds of people showed up at the average school board meeting: people who had to be there, and fanatics of all kinds

But the question is. Can the School Board parse a sentence? Write a paper without using spell-check? Do basic arithmetic without using a calculator?

In Ottawa last week they had to call the police; and the meeting had to be concluded the next day on zoom.

So, this starts a new version of that old joke, “I went to the fights and a school board meeting broke out.”

In a Century Town Council meeting a few years back the mayor threatened to gut (eviscerate) my cousin.
