Why else would he be holding a dog treat? My dog would have walked away long before Buckles got deep into begging. A little dignity isn’t all that bad, although I don’t think most dogs seeing a treat being teased in front of their eyes realize this.
Garfield has once said that groveling is not one of his strong suits, so if Jon tried to get Garfield to beg for a cat treat, Garfield would just maul him for it.
